- This course on 3G wireless systems provides the students with a thorough background on fundamentals, standards, and architecture of the 3G wireless network and
its evolution.
- The course will cover the various 3G protocol layers, their functions and interfaces.
- Their relationship to and evolution from the 1G/2G wireless standards are also discussed.
- The course will first review wireless propagation channels/modulation/coding/multiple access/receiver techniques utilized by 1G/2G standards.
- Then, the course will introduce the air interface techniques as utilized by the family of 3G standards including UMTS, CDMA2000, TD-SCDMA, and WiMAX.
- The 3G air interfaces are based on WCDMA, OFDM, adaptive modulation/coding and MIMO techniques.
- We will focus on 3G design tradeoffs, RF design considerations and discuss methods to maximize the performance using the features provided in the standards.
- The last part of the course will cover the 3G Network Design and implementation issues.
