Definition
The branch of semiconductor engineering that applies solid-state physics, electrostatics, carrier transport, junction behavior and related physical models to explain how semiconductor devices operate.
Application
Used to analyze and design devices such as diodes and transistors by relating material properties, carrier concentrations, electric fields and junctions to current-voltage behavior, capacitance, leakage, switching and breakdown.
