Definition
The range of allowed electron-energy states above the bandgap in which electrons can move through a crystalline semiconductor and contribute to electrical conduction.
Application
Used in semiconductor band diagrams and device physics to analyze electron concentration, junction barriers, heterostructures, carrier transport and the energy required to excite electrons from the valence band.
