Definition
The electric current produced by the net drift of electrons and holes in response to an applied electric field.
Application
Used in semiconductor transport and device calculations to relate carrier concentration, mobility and electric field to conductivity, resistivity and current density; it is considered together with diffusion current when carrier concentrations vary spatially.
