Definition
A hole is the absence of an electron from an otherwise occupied semiconductor valence-band state or covalent bond; its motion is modeled as a mobile positive charge carrier.
Application
Hole transport is fundamental to p-type semiconductor conduction and to carrier behavior in diodes, transistors, photodetectors, solar cells, and other semiconductor devices.
