Definition
A semiconductor carrier process in which a conduction-band electron transitions into an available valence-band hole so the electron-hole pair ceases to exist as free carriers and energy is released.
Application
Recombination models such as Shockley-Read-Hall, Auger, and radiative recombination are used to analyze carrier lifetime, leakage, optical response, and semiconductor device performance.
