Definition
A dopant impurity that can accept an electron from the semiconductor valence band, creating a hole. Electrically active acceptors can produce p-type conductivity when their contribution exceeds compensation by donors.
Application
Used to create p-type regions in semiconductor devices; boron is a common acceptor dopant in silicon.
