Definition
The three-dimensional periodic arrangement used to describe the repeating atomic geometry of a crystal; in a semiconductor crystal, the lattice establishes the regular sites and spacings about which the actual atoms are arranged.
Application
Used to describe silicon and compound-semiconductor structure, lattice spacing and crystallographic planes, and to analyze strain, epitaxy, defects and orientation-dependent processing.
