Definition
The automated verification of an integrated-circuit layout against the foundry’s design-rule set to identify geometric or process-related rule violations before manufacturing.
Application
Run iteratively during physical design and at signoff to flag width, spacing, enclosure, density, antenna and advanced-patterning violations; DRC-clean status is a required physical-verification gate before tapeout.
