Definition
A heterojunction is an interface between two semiconductor materials with different compositions and therefore different electronic band structures.
Application
Heterojunctions engineer carrier confinement and transport in high-speed/high-frequency transistors, optoelectronic devices, lasers, and other compound-semiconductor structures.
