Definition
Pump speed, or pumping speed, is the ratio of the throughput of a given gas to that gas's partial pressure at a specified point near the vacuum-pump inlet, expressed as volume per unit time.
Application
Used to compare vacuum pumps and assess whether a selected pump provides sufficient gas-removal capability for a vacuum task; manufacturers specify pumping speed for individual gases and operating conditions.
